Tips & Tricks for Edible Brownie Batter
Heat Flour
You need to treat your flour with heat to kill bacteria in the flour. This bacteria can make you sick when consumed raw, just like a raw egg. To heat-treat your flour, spread the flour on a baking sheet, and bake at 350°F for 5 minutes.
Dry Ingredients
Make sure to mix up the dry ingredients separate from the wet ones. This separation of wet and dry ingredients will help you batter come together more easily when you go to mix in with the wet that all the ingredients mix evenly.
Variations to Edible Brownie Batter
Mix-Ins
Instead of chocolate chips, you can mix in crushed cookies, sprinkles, or other ingredients. Just fold them in at the end of the recipe when all of the batter ingredients are well combined.
Espresso Powder
If you don't want an ultra rich brownie batter, skip the espresso powder. It will enhance a lot of flavor in the batter, especially the chocolatey cocoa flavor.
Dairy-Free
If you want a dairy-free brownie batter, use plant-based milk and butter alternatives for the recipe. You'll also want to swap out the chocolate chips for a dairy-free option, or replace them with something totally different-like nuts-that's dairy-free.
