    Best Vegetarian Restaurants – Phoenix

Published: Sep 6, 2018 · by Nicole · Updated: Aug 5, 2021 · This post may contain affiliate links.

Consider the five C’s that form the traditional foundations of Phoenix’s economy—climate, cotton, copper, cattle, and citrus. Although cattle farming is still an important hallmark of the city’s economy and culture, it definitely doesn’t define Phoenix.

If you’re visiting, you can expect a busy, constantly developing city that doubles as a paradise for tourists. Best of all, Phoenix features a delectable selection of vegetarian dining, with options for every palate and every wallet.

Explore the Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Phoenix, AZ

Here is a quick rundown of the best vegetarian restaurants Phoenix has to offer. If you’re a Phoenician, this list will help you navigate the vegetarian and vegan scene near you. This list is also useful to anyone who’s planning to make a stop in Phoenix en route to the Grand Canyon.

    1. Green New American Vegetarian

Dining at Green New American Vegetarian feels like coming home. The restaurant focuses on traditional comfort foods. For a snack, you can opt for vegan Buffalo wings, plant-based egg rolls, or a variety of burgers. You can also enjoy a wide selection of house-made citrus fruit drinks.

Green New American Vegetarian has one location in Phoenix on N. 7th Street and one in Tempe, but you can also visit Nami in Phoenix. The coffee shop was primarily built for popularizing Green New American Vegetarian’s organic ice cream. Over time, Nami has developed its own selection of loyal patrons. If you enjoy vegan and organic desserts, why not check it out?

    2. 24 Carrots

If you’re willing to go exploring outside of the Phoenix city limits, you should check out 24 Carrots in Tempe. They use farm-fresh ingredients to make delicious salads, wraps, and pasta dishes. Hummus plays a starring role on their menu. In addition to a filling lunch or dinner, 24 Carrots offers a great selection of smoothies and organic teas.

    3. Flower Child

As the name suggests, Flower Child prizes simplicity and a peaceful atmosphere. They have three locations in Phoenix—Arcadia, Desert Ridge, and Uptown Plaza. There is a Scottsdale location as well. While there are a handful of non-vegetarian options, most of this restaurant’s menu is plant-based and wholly organic.

    4. Pomegranate Café

The exceedingly popular Pomegranate Café is perfect for any vegan or vegetarian with a sweet tooth. This café has a location in Ahwatukee and another one in Central Phoenix.

Their menu is varied, but the cheesecakes, cookies, and rich chocolate cakes stand out. All the pastries are presented in mouth-watering ways, making this café a great option if you’re gift-shopping for a special somebody. On the other hand, you can also try their vegan BBQ platters or their house-made jams.

    5. Fresh Mint

Located over in Scottsdale, Fresh Mint is well-known for its selection of vegetarian Vietnamese cuisine. In spite of being relatively affordable, Fresh Mint is one of the best vegetarian restaurants Phoenix has to offer to anyone looking for a gluten-free meal. It features a rich selection of soups, salads, and gluten-free noodles, as well as mango coconut tapioca for dessert.

All of Fresh Mint’s dishes are worth trying out, and you can order takeaway that features delicacies such as pad Thai, spicy lemongrass tofu, and pho five spice noodle soup.

    6. Mellow Mushroom

Mellow Mushroom is located in Happy Valley. While it isn’t exclusively vegetarian, this pizzeria offers you a delicious selection of pizzas, pies, pretzels, and calzones. For example, you can opt for their extremely filling shiitake-portobello pie. As this pizzeria lets you build your own pizza, you can also combine your favorite toppings, including caramelized onions and vegan cheese.

    7. Loving Hut

This international chain of vegan cuisine has a location on E. Indian School Road and offers take-out options as well. Loving Hut has an extensive menu that covers everything from summer rolls to elaborate wok dishes. Taking inspiration from various East Asian cuisines, Loving Hut has something for everyone.

    8. The Coronado

The Coronado is a popular vegetarian eatery located in the Coronado neighborhood. It offers a welcoming, cheerful ambiance and a wide, multicultural selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Their tacos and burritos are particularly well-loved. Every day, The Coronado has a Happy Hour from 4 to 7 PM. In addition to the cocktails, it also has an excellent selection of beautifully served coffees.

    9. The Cutting Board Bakery and Café

If you’re looking for a fun night out, the Cutting Board is one of the best vegetarian restaurants Phoenix can offer you. This restaurant features classic vegetarian dishes as well as a few experimental ones. For example, you can try their protein bowl, which features black beans, quinoa, Mexican spiced walnut, and an unexpected selection of spices, fruits, and sauces.

But it’s not just the menu that’s worth exploring. The Cutting Board hosts unforgettable live music events. There is even an open mic night for the really adventurous. You can find this café in Kiowa Village.

    10. Mi Vegana Madre

It is worth making the trip to Glendale to try the Mexican vegan cuisine served in Mi Vegana Madre. For example, you can try the unique trumpet mushroom taco made with nopales, red salsa, and epazote. There are also zesty nachos and a selection of house-made beverages. Mi Vegana Madre has an exceptionally pleasant ambiance, which makes it a great spot for special events.

    11. Grabba Green

If you’re craving a delicious vegan smoothie, why not try Grabba Green? With locations in North Phoenix and Downtown Phoenix, this vegan fast food joint is a great option if you’re in a hurry. The menu includes a wide selection of vegan bowls and wraps. You can order soup as well, but it’s the smoothies, cold brews, and detoxifying fresh-pressed juices that make Grabba Green popular.

    12. Persian Garden Café

You can find a breathtaking selection of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes in this charming location on the corner of Thomas and 5th Avenue. The Persian Garden Café isn’t exclusively a vegetarian restaurant. However, its selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes outshines everything else on the menu. You can start with the hummus and then go for one of the delicious, complex salads or pasta dishes.

    A Final Word

If you’re a dedicated vegan epicure, you have probably already heard of the Phoenix Vegan Fest, which features many more local delicacies. Even if you have to miss out on the festival, it’s not hard to find restaurants, bars, and cafés worth celebrating in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. After all, this list covers only a few of the best vegetarian restaurants Phoenix has to offer.
