I love smoothies, especially during summertime. They’re cold and fruity and creamy–what’s not to love? Oh, that’s right, the calories. My favorite smoothie from a smoothie place that shall remain nameless is over 400 calories. For the medium size. For a smoothie that contains mango, green tea, and vanilla frozen yogurt. Ridiculous, right?
In my quest to find a suitable substitute for smoothies, I started making a drink with fruit, sparkling water, and sorbet. My favorite gelato place back in Madison made something similar and I loved it–it was like a smoothie, but fizzy. So, like, even better than a smoothie. Use any flavor combination of sparkling water, fruit, and sorbet that you like–you really can’t go wrong! And it’s so easy, it hardly even qualifies as a recipe. Here’s what you do:
Combine 1/2 cup of mango sorbet, 1/4 cup of strawberries (frozen or fresh both work), and 1/2 cup of sparkling water (I’m using citrus flavored water here) in a blender. I like to use my immersion blender because it’s easier to clean afterwards.
