I know on Fridays I usually have a nice little wrap up of recipes that I’ve made from other blogs and websites and sometimes I have other meal ideas for you too, but I’ve completely failed you guys this week. I’m a failing failure who fails.

This week has been crazy. Typically, I make a few of my recipes during the week and then I make a few other recipes too, and those are the ones that end up in my What I Ate This Week posts. But this week, I was developing my own recipes every day. Between that, the photo shoots, the writing, and the day-to-day behind-the-scenes stuff I have to do, I am totally exhausted. Like babbling, incoherent, is-the-burner-on?-let-me-put-my-hand-in-the-skillet-to-test exhausted. So instead of what I ate this week, this is more: What I’ve Been Working On This Week.

Mochi, the one-eyed pasta making catI haven’t really done a theme week before, so next week is my first. Pasta week! I think there’s an actual pasta week or day coming up sometime soon, but I had no idea about that when I pencilled this into my editorial calendar. Oh well! I’ve got three homemade pasta recipes for you starting with a whole wheat cracked pepper fettuccine on Monday. I was setting up for some pasta maker shots earlier this week and Mochi wanted in on the action.

Acorn Squash RingsAside from the pasta, I’m also working on another collaboration with Rikki Snyder for Thanksgiving, so I’m trying to wrap up those recipes this week. I’m very excited! We’re planning on posting them well-before Thanksgiving so you’ll have time to get them on your menu. I’ve got an entree that puts Tofurkey to shame, a vegetarian gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, some easy roasted veggies–like I said, I’m excited!

Fried Food at State FairLast weekend I did manage to take some time out of my cooking schedule to hit up the state fair with Chris. He got fried Girl Scout cookies, fried banana pudding, fried peanut butter cups, and…

Deep-Fried Kool-Aid…fried Kool-Aid! This is a thing! It probably shouldn’t be a thing, but here it is, in all its glory.

State Fair HummusAnd I got hummus.

I’ve heard about the deep fried Kool Aid before but have never understood how it’s done .. I still don’t get it but at least you’ve confirmed that it really exists! Can’t wait for all the exciting recipes you have coming!

I’m not a fan of the Kool-aid – real or proverbial. You’re so good and healthy getting the hummus! I completely abstained this weekend at the pumpkin patch from from deep fried Oreos, deep fried Twinkies, and deep fried pie – I did indulge in the birthday cookie and pizza though. No use dieting this time of year.

Well done on getting the hummus! I admire you for your will power. I have had the deep fried Kool-aid and it’s one of the better fried items at the fair that I like.

Does you cat only have one eye? My dog only has one eye! For some reason, seeing another one-eyed pet makes me inordinately excited.

Yes! High fives for one-eyed pets! I guess people are freaked out by one-eyed animals, because he was at the rescue shelter for 2 years before we adopted him. THEIR LOSS because he is awesome, as I’m sure your dog is too. 🙂

I worked at a vet for 6 years and, this is going to sound strange, but I LOVE one-eyed animals as well as three-legged animals. It just adds character and they’re so resilient.

Ha! No, not strange at all–I totally get it. Mochi has the weirdest, funniest personality and we love him for it. I don’t think he even knows he’s missing an eye. 🙂
