Fruit Leather

Happy New Year! January 1st doesn’t just mark the first day of the new year, it’s also the one-year anniversary of The Type A Housewife. I started this blog a year ago not really knowing what I wanted to write about, but I think in the past few months I’ve found my niche and I’m sticking with it. Until I find another niche that I like better. Just kidding! Whether you’ve been with me from the beginning or just discovered my blog recently, I want to thank you for reading, for sharing, and for commenting. I appreciate you all so much and I hope that 2012 brings wonderful things for you!

So, being that it’s the end of 2011, I thought I’d do a little round-up of the best of The Type A Housewife. These are my most popular posts from last year:

Raspberry Peach Fruit LeatherRaspberry Peach Fruit Leather // I think it’s not so much the recipe itself, but the method of making fruit leather in an oven that’s made this post my most popular of the year.

Roasted Butternut Squash PaniniRoasted Butternut Squash Panini // It’s hard to find a good vegetarian sandwich that doesn’t involve portabella mushrooms (or pb&j). I have this on my list to re-photograph…

Fruit and VeggiesHow to Prevent Food Spoilage with Careful Meal Planning // I’m so glad you like this post because this is one of my favorites too. I swear by this list–it has completely changed the way I do meal planning.

Chocolate Pomegranate Granola BitesChocolate Pomegranate Granola Bites // A relatively healthy cookie–imagine that!

EdamameFood Photography with an iPhone // Although I’ve moved on from taking photos with my iPhone, I’m still using most of these techniques in my photography.

And here are my favorite posts from 2011:

Cranberry Chipotle KetchupCranberry Chipotle Ketchup // This was the second photograph I had accepted on FoodGawker. Although I was thrilled about the first one, I think it was the second that made me realize, “Hey, maybe I’m kind of good at this whole food blogging thing.”

Chocolate Peppermint Ice Cream SandwichesChocolate Peppermint Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches // I love this because it’s delicious. And also because this is the first picture I took for my blog with my real, grown-up camera. I’m not happy with the way it turned out (there’s a weird color cast in it!), but I think it represents another moment of growth for me as a blogger.

Chocolate Pomegranate MousseDark Chocolate Pomegranate Mousse Cups // Here’s another that I should photograph again. But anyway! This was the first recipe that I came up with myself (or at least the first one I came up with for my blog). And you really wouldn’t know this is made with tofu.

JR Watkins HeadquartersMy Visit to the J.R. Watkins Factory // My first big official blog trip to visit one of my favorite brands.

10 Random Thoughts About Beverly Hills 90210 Reruns & Season 7 of Beverly Hills, 90210 is the Worst // I wrote these posts mostly to amuse myself. Because I’m sure I’m the only one who remembers Joanie’s inexplicable pregnancy and Matt the mall lawyer.

Oh, and on a completely different note…

Thank you for your comments, email, and concern after my post about blacking out at the salon. I followed up with my primary care doctor and he thinks it’s vasovagal syncope, which I’ve been diagnosed with before. (The best part of this diagnosis is that you get told to EAT MORE SALT. That? I can do. Especially if it’s fancypants sea salt.) I’m still convinced it was somehow migraine-related, because I’ve been having migraines and auras more than usual since this all happened. But what do I know!

Yeah, it was probably more like 5 times. 🙂 But once I got to the point where I started making some money from my ads, I was able to cut down on my work hours & devote that time to blogging instead, so now it feels less like a job on top of a job. So I’m glad I stuck it out too!

HOLY COW HOW DID I MISS THAT PANINI!? I’m in love =) congrats on 1 year lovey!

ps: my floors are totally faux 😉 laminiate was all i could shell out for <3 i'm over the moon that they look authentic though!!! thanks so so much!

Do you ever go to Chapel Hill? I got the idea from Sandwhich, which had something similar on the menu this fall. SO! GOOD!

And I freaking love your laminate floors. They’re the exact finish I want for ours. 🙂

Happy New Year! I’m glad you got the ER situation figured out and who doesn’t love more salt! Cannot wait to try the squash panini (when my diet ends sigh).
