Once a month, we round-up some of our favorite vegetarian foods and kitchen tools and share them with you here on the Marketplace. Here are this month’s picks! (Note that we received samples for review on products marked with an asterisk.)
1. Nii Bars*
We are total bar addicts around here. They make a great breakfast on-the-go, you can keep them in your purse for a mid-day snack, they store well in desk drawers for emergencies. Nii Bars are organic, vegan and nutrient-dense, made with real food and not weird fillers and sweeteners, so you can feel good about eating them. Nut butter is the first ingredient on the list—not sugar!—and they’re sweetened with coconut nectar. And did we mention they come in amazing flavors like Almond Chocolate Chip and Cacao Coconut?

2. Banza Pasta*
This is one of our fave finds of the year—chickpea pasta! The texture is a little denser than the original and the flavor is slightly nutty, but in a really, really good way. Each serving of Banza has double the protein, four times the fiber, and half the net carbs of traditional pasta. It comes in a wide variety of shapes and we’ve used it in a lot of different ways with success—from simple stovetop pasta dinners to baked casseroles to salads.

3. Nutiva Organic Plant Protein Superfood 30 Shake*
Smoothies are our favorite way to start the day, but fruit alone isn’t enough to sustain us until lunch—a good protein powder is a must! Nutiva’s new plant protein shake blends organic pea, pumpkin, sunflower, chia and hemp for 20 grams of protein and 4 grams of fiber per serving. With over 30 superfoods added to the mix, a scoop of this will pack loads of nutrition into your morning smoothie. We love the chocolate flavor paired with a frozen banana, coconut milk, and a scoop of powdered peanut butter.

4. Simply Gum*
Many of us have started avoiding plastic in the kitchen, swapping out plastic storage containers and utensils with glass, stainless steel and silicone. But plastic is lurking somewhere else you might not expect: in your gum. Yes, seriously. Simply Gum is made with chicle, the original gum, along with organic raw sugar, vegetable glycerin, rice flour, and natural flavors. It comes in 6 different flavors—we’re partial to Ginger, which is perfect for settling upset stomachs.

5. Zyliss Swift Dry Salad Spinner*
Do you ever skip drying herbs and lettuce because you’re in a hurry? (Guilty.) It always seems like a good idea at the time, but when you’re chopping that soggy pile of cilantro, you immediately regret your decision. We love this new salad spinner from Zyliss because it dries faster than any other salad spinner we’ve tried (removing 25% more water!)—and because instead of a string, this spinner uses a lever, making it much easier to use. The small size is perfect for those of us who lack storage in the kitchen.
