And now I can finally say it…

Baby Artichokes
I’ve been keeping a secret for a while and it’s been agonizing. Agonizing! I have wanted to post about it for so long and I’ve found myself writing posts in my head for when the time came and now that the time is finally here, I’m completely unable to think of what to say, so I’ll just say it:

I’m writing a cookbook!

I can’t tell you exactly what it’s about yet (yes, another secret that I will have to keep) or when it will be out (it will be a while), but I’ve signed a book deal with Workman Publishing. This entire process, from signing with a literary agent to writing a proposal to negotiating the deal, has been utterly surreal and I still can’t quite wrap my head around the fact that this is a thing that really happened. And it has totally pained me not to be able to share it all with you!

So what does this mean for Oh My Veggies? Well, I hope it doesn’t mean much. At this time, I’m planning on keeping my current publishing schedule, with guest bloggers filling in once a month on my What I Ate This Week posts. I might be a little slow with replying to comments and emails for the rest of the year, but I’m doing my best to keep up. And when things get really hectic, I might have my assistant answer some of your questions.

Cat Assistant
Ha ha, just kidding. My cats are totally useless. They never pitch in around here!

Anyway, I’m just a little bit excited about all this. I love blogging, but I have wanted to start branching out into cookbook writing for a while now. Workman puts out amazing, useful, timeless books and that’s exactly what I want this cookbook to be–a book that will become a staple in your kitchen. Thank you SO MUCH for your support, for sharing my posts on social media, for telling your friends and family about my blog, and for making Oh My Veggies into the community that it is. Without you, I wouldn’t have a book deal right now and that’s not hyperbole, it’s the absolute truth. And thank you to my agent, Katherine Latshaw, for guiding me through this process (and putting up with my impatience–because oh my gosh, you guys, this whole book thing is a sloooow process).

I promise not to annoy you with non-stop cookbook talk for the next several months, but I will share more details with you when I can. Also:

I’m writing a cookbook!

Fantastic news Kiersten! How exciting this must be for you (and your trusty assistant!). Looking forward to hearing about the progress from here. It may be a long road there but imagine how rewarding it will be the day you see it in print!

Wow, very exciting news, congratulations! Can’t wait to hear more about it as soon as you’re able to share more info! I can’t imagine all the work that really goes into planning and developing your own cookbook, but I’m sure you’re up to the task!

Yaaaay!! Congrats again. And I’ve always wished my cats would at least do back massages, like that one commercial where a cat is kneading someone’s back (I don’t remember what it was selling, or anything else about the commercial). Can’t wait to see it in print.

Oh, Mochi does that. At about 6am every Saturday. Nothing like waking up to a big fat cat putting all his weight on your rib cage!
